Laser Therapy
Low level laser therapy (LLT) is the application of red and near infra-red light over injuries or lesions to improve soft tissue healing and give relief for both acute and chronic pain.
Unlike other medical laser procedures it does not have cutting or thermal mechanism. It works by using light to increase energy production in cells. This in turn results in the initiation of a cellular process that promotes proliferation of various types of cells which have a role in tissue repair and protection.
LLT was first developed in 1967. Since then over 100 randomized clinical trials and over 1,000 lab studies have been done investigating how laser therapy works. It has been shown to have positive outcomes in the treatment of conditions such as:
- Osteoarthritis
- Tendinitis
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Muscle pain
- Wound healing
- Nerve injuries
- Sports injuries
In the Maple Clinic we use low level laser therapy in conjuction with manual therapy and dry needling. We use it to help increase the speed and quality of tissue repair, give pain relief, resolve inflammation and improve function of damaged neurological tissue. It’s a painless and safe therapy, and most people will notice the pain relieving effects of laser immeadiately after it is applied. For this reason it is gaining rapid popularity with our clients who often ask specifically for it.
