Creating a stir at the European Championships

Last week Physical Therapist Karen Doyle was in Poland working with the elite male and female squads at the European Elite Track Championships. It was a great event with good results and a few surprises!

Ireland caused a shock when the 18 year old Irish cyclists Felix English caught out three time Olympic champion and world medallist Chris Hoy pipping him at the line during a qualification heat and putting him out of the competition. The stadium went wild at the result, and the other competitors in the sprint event were delighted to have the number 1 seed removed so early giving them a better chance at winning the event.

In the other events the women's team pursuit finished 12th. Jennifer O'Reilly and Martyn Irvine took part in the Omnium where they had to take part in 6 races over 2 days. They both had strong races finishing 13th and 9th respectively.
