Women With Altitude 8-10 April

The Women With Altitude meet was held from the 8-10 of April in Tollymore Outdoor Centre in the Mourns. It was organised by Mountaineering Ireland.

Women With Altitude was a weekend to share ideas, gain confidence, learn new skills and have fun, in the company of some of Ireland's top female climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers. Karen Doyle was asked to hold workshops at the meet on injury prevention aimed at hillwalking and rock climbing. They focused on key areas of injury including the knee, ankle and shoulder. They were fun, helping the attendees to identify areas of weakness and then showing them stretching and strengthening exercises participants could try to prevent injury and correct weaknesses that they had.

These were very successful and the weather was so good we held them outdoors on the Sunday. Unfortunately we were so busy trying out exercises, wobble boards and therabands that there was no opportunity to take photos.

If you are interested in the content of the workshop please see a hand-out here under the 'General' section, but contact a medical professional before you undertake any of the exercises as they may not be suitable for you. Articles & Resources
